Some places leave a lasting impression, and for the new owner, Lars Seier, La Fonda Hotel in Benalmádena is one of them. Having worked there as a teenager, he fell in love with its breathtaking views and authentic atmosphere.
Years later, the opportunity arose to revamp and update this beloved ‘pueblo’ hotel while preserving its authentic Andalusian charm and ensuring it meets modern hospitality standards.
The renovation carefully blends heritage and innovation. While the essence of La Fonda’s boutique character was maintained, the design was restyled and updated to align with today’s comfort and quality expectations. Thoughtfully selected materials, textiles, and furniture now bring a refined elegance and ensure an elevated guest experience.
The transformation began with an in-depth design process. Moodboards were created to define the style and feel of the new concept and close collaboration with the client ensured the vision remained clear and personal every step of the way. 2D floor plans and 3D visualisations were created to bring the concept to life and provide a realistic preview of the final result. These tools guided the design process and allowed us to refine the layout, proportions, and material combinations, ensuring harmony throughout the space.
From refreshed interiors to enhanced functionality, every space now seamlessly blends timeless charm with modern sophistication. The transformation allows guests to enjoy the same beloved character and stunning views of the hotel, but with the added benefit of contemporary comfort, greater efficiency, and a refined aesthetic.
See below before & after images showcasing this remarkable transformation! All pictures of the final result can be seen in our La Fonda Gallery.
Hotel rooms were updated with a focus on neutral colours like beige, blue, and white, paired with natural materials to create a light, bright, and cozy beach feeling. A tufted headboard, woven textures, and plush accents add comfort, while striped wallpaper enhance elegance and height.
To craft a stylish and welcoming dining area, natural textures were introduced with woven rattan chairs, complemented by crisp white table settings and soft blue accents, creating a relaxed yet refined Andalusian ambiance. Glass enclosure create an open, airy feel, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor experience.
The outdoor lounge was completely refreshed with natural wood furniture, soft neutral cushions, and vibrant accent pillows. Lush greenery adds a relaxed feel, transforming the space into a warm, stylish, and inviting spot for guests to unwind and enjoy the atmosphere.
The patio has been transformed into a tranquil oasis, now filled with vibrant plant life that creates a sense of privacy and calm. Comfortable lounge seating replaces the café tables, inviting guests to relax in a more intimate and natural setting, while still enjoying the fountain as a central feature.
One of the most special touches in this space came about completely by chance. While visiting Granada, Suz stumbled upon a tiny shop filled with beautiful Andalusian handmade ceramics. Crafted with love, skill, and tradition, these unique pieces bring a touch of authenticity and soul to the patio – and fit the new La Fonda setting just perfectly.
The solarium and rooftop were modernised and redesigned to create a welcoming and relaxing retreat. The use of blue colour reflects traditional Andalusian style, adding an authentic touch of Spanish charm to the place. The terrace now offers guests a stylish spot to chill out and enjoy the stunning views of Benalmádena.
“Bringing new life to La Fonda has been a wonderful project to us. Our aim was to create spaces that feel as good as they look: inviting, personal, and full of real Spanish character. We hope guests feel the care behind every material, texture, and layout choice, and that their time in the hotel feels effortlessly special”, says Suz L. Emiliea, Interior Stylist and the owner of Solo Interior.
